Fully Online Graduate Programs

Depending on your background, we offer three pathways to get certified in FACS. All the graduate courses in these pathways are delivered fully online, which means you never have to leave your house or come to campus to complete the courses.

Three pathways to FCS certification

All courses delivered fully online

Track 1: MS Ed in Family and Consumer Sciences Education
30 credits · leads to professional certification · for currently certified FCS teachers

Certified in another subject area? A transcript assessment determines how many additional credits you need for FCS initial certification. Courses can be completed alongside the MS or during accelerated 4-week summer sessions.
Track 2: Content Courses as a Non-Matriculated Student
For teachers who already hold a master’s degree and a teaching certificate in any subject area

Take individual FCS content courses without entering a degree program. Builds the coursework needed to sit for the CST and apply for certification through the individual evaluation pathway.
Track 3: Advanced Certificate in FCS (initial certification)
For school staff who do not yet hold initial certification in any subject area

Includes the full pedagogical core, required FCS content courses, and student teaching. Leads to institutional recommendation for initial certification in FCS.

Advanced Certificate for Initial Certification

Post Baccalaureate Program for the Initial Certification in Family & Consumer Sciences Teacher Education K-12

The Post Baccalaureate program consists of 21 credits in education and one semester of student teaching (6 cr.) and leads to an Initial Certification in Family and Consumer Sciences. All coursework is delivered fully online, while student teaching and fieldwork is completed by visiting different secondary schools with FACS programs. Each education course requires 20-25 hours of fieldwork and can be completed at a variety of schools throughout New York. Every effort should be made to visit schools with FACS programs. A list of these schools can be obtained from the Program Coordinator. All courses must be completed with a B or better and are only available to matriculated students in the program.

In addition to this program, there are other requirements to complete, including 30 credits in the FACS content area. These content area courses are offered at ºì¶¹ÊÓƵ in a fully online format.

Since some applicants may come with relevant content in their previous academic coursework, having your transcripts assessed will help you to evaluate the number of credits needed to complete the Advanced Certificate.
