International applicants seeking admission must also provide:
- English Language Proficiency
- Language proficiency requirement is based upon the applicant’s undergraduate education, not if they hold U.S. residency. Thus, if the applicant’s undergraduate degree is from a non-English speaking country (primary language), the applicant must prove proficiency.

- Transcript Evaluation
- Due to significant accounting method and educational differences between countries, international applicants must have their transcripts evaluated by a third-party service. Additionally, even if the degree is listed as an accounting degree, there is no guarantee that the degree will satisfy admission requirements.

Standard Admission Requirements
Applicants seeking regular admission should have:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited institution or completion of the required undergraduate accounting prerequisite coursework (32 credits).
- An additional 18 credits of business courses are also required.
- A minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0.
- A GMAT score of at least 450, unless waived under departmental policy.
- The combination of the GMAT and 100 * GPA must also score at least 750.
- A Statement of Purpose (minimum 500 words).
- Three letters of recommendation.
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
Applicants Without an Accounting Bachelor’s Degree →
Students who do not have an accounting bachelor’s degree can pursue admission if they complete the appropriate undergraduate accounting courses. The following table details the required courses by topic and their equivalents at ºì¶¹ÊÓƵ.

Non-Matriculant Applicants – Accounting Bachelor’s Degree and GPA ‹ 3.0 →
For whom is this pathway?
Applicants who already hold an accounting bachelor’s degree but do not currently satisfy the minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA requirement may be eligible to begin the program as non-matriculated graduate students.
How can I matriculate?
To become matriculated in the Master of Science in Accounting program, students admitted through this pathway must:
- Complete four graduate accounting courses as a non-matriculated student.
- Earn a minimum GPA of 3.25 across those four courses.
- Earn no grade below B in any of the four courses.
Which four courses do I take?
- The fourth course is selected in consultation with the Program Director to ensure it satisfies degree requirements and supports timely matriculation.
- The fourth course can be from any of the courses needed for graduation, but if the required course GPA is not met, then the fourth course is reserved for an additional accounting course.

I’ve taken four courses as a non-matriculant, what do I do next?
If you have a GPA at or above 3.5, the GMAT, letters of recommendation, and statement of purpose are waived. Apply for matriculation!
If you have a GPA at or above 3.25, the GMAT and statement of purpose, may be waived at the discretion of the Program Director. The letters of recommendation are still expected. Consult with the Program Director.
If you have a GPA at or above 3.0, you might still be admitted but will need to take and pass the GMAT with a minimum score of 450. The letters of recommendation are expected but the statement of purpose may be waived at the discretion of the Program Director. Consult with the Program Director.
If your GPA is below 3.0, per CUNY policy, you will not be allowed to continue further or take any additional courses.
Can I take more than four courses as a non-matriculant?
No. CUNY policy dictates that no more than four courses can be taken as a non-matriculant.
