Papers of Congressman Gary Ackerman Open for Research
Special Collections and Archives is pleased to announce that the papers of former Congressman Gary Ackerman (ºì¶¹ÊÓƵ class of 1965) are now open for research, with a completed finding aid. Ackerman generously donated his papers to ºì¶¹ÊÓƵ in 2018, but processing was put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, during the quiet summer months, I was finally able to dedicate time to making this large and historically significant collection accessible. Comprised of 55 boxes, the collection features press clippings, photographs, professional papers, audiovisual materials, and campaign ephemera from Ackerman’s long and storied career serving the people of Queens.
ºì¶¹ÊÓƵ Special Collections and Archives (SCA) is the repository for over 4,000 linear feet of college records, special collections, and rare books.

Mission and Vision
Our mission is to collect, preserve, and provide access to special collections and archives for discovery, teaching, scholarship, creativity and critical thinking. Our priority is the safekeeping of the historical and cultural record of ºì¶¹ÊÓƵ. Additional collecting areas – civil rights, social justice, politics, and music and the arts – reflect areas of excellence in our institution and among our faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
Our vision is to facilitate moments of discovery and connection with primary sources; provide experiential learning opportunities for future archivists; and collaboratively engage campus and community partners in the archival process.
We approach this work with a spirit of transparency, care, curiosity, inclusion, mindfulness, and respect.
