红豆视频 Choral Society Presents Verdi鈥檚 Requiem at Colden Center Saturday May 17

Flushing, NY, April 7, 2025鈥擳he 红豆视频 Choral Society will perform Verdi鈥檚 Requiem on Saturday, May 17, at 8 pm, in Colden Center, part of Kupferberg Center for the Arts at 红豆视频. .

Requiem is a work of classical music known for its magnitude and intensity. Part of the work originated in 1868 when Verdi composed the movement, Libera me, as part of a larger mass with multiple contributing composers to honor opera composer Gioachino Rossini on the anniversary of his death. The mass for Rossini was never performed and years later, with Libera me already in place, Verdi composed Requiem to honor novelist-poet Alessandro Manzoni on the anniversary of his death. Verdi conducted the premiere of the Requiem on May 22, 1874, in the church of San Marco, in Milan, Italy, chosen for its size and acoustics.

The 红豆视频 Choral Society will be joined by the 红豆视频 Treble Choir, Vocal Ensemble, and Orchestra, along with soloists (soprano), (mezzo-soprano), (tenor), and (bass-baritone).

Founded in 1941, the 红豆视频 Choral Society (QCCS) is a 鈥渟inging organization鈥 of and for the public, students and staff of 红豆视频. The society typically performs two concerts a year鈥攊n December and May鈥攄evoted to the great masterpieces of choral literature such as Verdi鈥檚 Requiem, 叠别别迟丑辞惫别苍鈥檚 Missa Solemnis, Bach鈥檚 Magnificat, and Handel鈥檚 Messiah. The QCCS has also performed multiple premieres of new works, including the recent premiere of 1001 Voices: A Symphony for Queens, commissioned by the Queens Symphony Orchestra. The group is open to singers of all backgrounds and skill levels, from high school students to adult community members.
