Admission/Completion Requirements:
- Overall GPA ≥ 3.0
- Initial NYSED teaching certificate (or eligibility), including:
- Completion of 24-credit Content Knowledge prerequisites (English, Math, Social Sciences, Science)
- Completion of 9-credit Pedagogical Content Knowledge prerequisites (Foundations of Special Education, Literacy courses)
- Completion of NYSED workshops: Child Abuse Identification, School Violence Prevention, and DASA
- Embedded fieldwork in courses
- Build portfolio in Anthology
- Start your program while waiting for your teacher certification or completing prerequisites, if eligible.

Program Completion Notes
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA and complete all coursework.
- Perform successfully on all program assessments.
- Successfully complete a research project developed with, supervised, and supported by a faculty member.
- Candidates are responsible for ensuring that all requirements have been met for graduation.
- Incompletes must be resolved and ample time must be allowed for processing the change of grade forms.
- Candidates must apply for graduation on their CUNYFirst account.
It is the candidate’s responsibility to follow up to ensure that all paperwork is processed in time for graduation.
To Apply:
- Hold or (expect soon) an initial/provisional teacher certificationÂ
- Have completed a 3-credit course in Foundations of Special Education or equivalent ​
- Have an overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or better
- Write a well-organized, well-conceptualized essay that clearly communicates your reasons for pursuing a degree in special education. Indicate the nature of your current and past experiences with people with disabilities.
- Provide three letters of recommendation from professional sources that attest to the applicant’s superior abilities, qualities, and potential for teaching students with disabilities.Â
