There are several ways in which you can contribute as a leader: sharing a lesson seed, presenting at the Summer Institute (described below) or becoming an ITW Teacher Mentor. You can be an ITW Teacher Leader by selecting another teacher from your school to work with and mentor him or her in one or more of the environmental literacy areas you have explored by being a part of ITW. The project that you and your partner teacher work on will be featured in the 2017 ITW Symposium at ºì¶¹ÊÓƵ. MMA is a collaboration of schools, youth and community groups, public gardens and environmental centers, and international Monarch conservation groups to learn about and to create habitat for Monarch butterflies and other wildlife across NYC. MMA will host workshops for teachers grades 3-6 and separate workshops for communities to establish Monarch habitat; to collect, rear, and release Monarch butterflies in time for their annual migration; and to conduct research and citizen science projects that will inform future conservation efforts. One-day teacher workshops will provide teachers with training and tools to custmozie and create a versatile, interdisciplinary suite of classroom activities that align with the NYS Common Core and to supervise grade-appropriate research projects as students rear and release Monarch butterflies in the class or school garden.
