The Master of Music in Conducting is open to candidates in orchestral, choral, and wind ensemble. Applicants need to complete the ºì¶¹ÊÓƵ graduate admission process AND to submit a video demonstratingconducting ability and performance on the major instrument. Remember to complete all application steps in order to be considered for the degree program. Applicants for the MM in Conducting require an undergraduate degree with a major in music or equivalent. You may apply during the final year of your undergraduate program, however full admission to the master\u2019s degree program requires that the undergraduate degree has been awarded.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Successful candidates will show a command of rehearsal skills, a readable and easily accessible physical conducting technique, insightful musical interpretation, and the potential for growth. Previous conducingexperience is required, along with high level musicianship skills on at least one instrument.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The application video should contain a mix of rehearsal and performance footage of you conducting, shot from the back of the ensemble as you would be seen and heard by a member of the ensemble. The repertoire should showcase your skills in a variety of contexts. In addition, the application video should include a performance on your major instrument (the choice of repertoire is yours).\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The ACSM team uses <\/span>Acceptd<\/span> to manage audition requests. At this site you can <\/span>schedule your live audition, placement exam, and communicate directly with the ACSM admissions team. <\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In some circumstances, students may be invited to a live audition. If so, students will be contacted with details of the repertoire and requirements.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At the beginning of the first semester, students will sit the diagnostic examination in music history, theory, and basic keyboard skills. This examination is for placement purposes; students who pass the exam will be exempt from some classes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
