The five-year Bachelor of Music in Performance with Initial Certification in Music Education is available to students who have been accepted into the Bachelor of Music in Performance program but also wish to pursue teacher certification. Students follow the standard Bachelor of Music Performance curriculum initially, including college-mandated liberal arts requirements. Beginning in the sophomore or junior year, students add classes from the music education sequence and education courses required for certification. Full certification typically requires one additional year of study to meet all requirements, including student teaching. Once all requirements for the Bachelor of Music in Performance are met, students will graduate with the undergraduate degree and automatically advance into the Advanced Certificate in Music Education program.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Admission to the Bachelor of Music in Performance is by competitive audition. Open to instrumentalists and singers in the Classical tradition, our degree program combines the professional training of a conservatory and the academics of a liberal arts degree. Students take individual lessons on their principal instrument for eight semesters, culminating in a senior recital. Students perform in a large ensemble each semester and have opportunities to perform in choral and chamber groups ranging from Baroque ensemble to the ºì¶¹ÊÓƵ New Music Group. Our curriculum includes required courses in musicianship, music theory, and music history.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
