The HPAS Office Advisors will not write Committee Letters for optometry, pharmacy, or podiatry students.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Committee Letter is<\/strong>\u00a0written at the request of the student\u00a0for dentist, physician, or\u00a0veterinarian, and when the student has complied with the ºì¶¹ÊÓƵ\/CUNY Office of Health Professions Advisory Services guidelines listed below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Meet with an advisor a minimum of four\u00a0consecutive semesters before June, the semester the letter is to be written.<\/li>\n<li>Have 15+ months on record for hospital volunteer and community service when applying June.<\/li>\n<li>Attend at least 4 health profession zoom info sessions hosted by admission deans within 12 months before applying June<\/li>\n<li>Submit by the first Thursday in March, year of application, the required 3 part student profile paper:\n<ul>\n<li>Personal background<\/li>\n<li>21 day observation and reflection<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of the profession<\/li>\n<li>Research on a medical ethics issue \u2013 if medical and veterinary medicine applicant<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Have on file at least three College science faculty letters, by November 1, if applying June of the coming year<\/li>\n<li>Have patient care letter and a community service letter on file by June \u2013 Year applying<\/li>\n<li>Provide Office with copy of complete application before first Friday in September year applying<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s in Committee Letter<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge of the student is based on the student\u2019s office meetings, attendance at pre\u2013professional health related events, on\/off campus activities, and letters attached to the student\u2019s file.<\/li>\n<li>Students are required to volunteer for a health\/patient care activity and a community service activity \u2013 each a minimum of four hours per week, for more than one year \u2013\u00a0<strong>required 15 months<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The Committee Letter includes personal information about the student, comments from faculty and mentors, and the student\u2019s expressed level of commitment of interest in the profession in which she\/he is applying.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Committee Letters are written after June 1 and before the first Friday in September by<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Valli Cook, MBA, MS.
