Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art Program<\/h2>\n

The\u00a0ºì¶¹ÊÓƵ MFA in Studio Art\u00a0is a low-cost, comprehensive, studio-based graduate program focused on contemporary painting, sculpture, installation, digital media, critical theory, and social practice art. Every MFA candidate enjoys a large, private workspace with access to wood, metal, plaster, ceramic, printmaking, digital, traditional photo facilities, and an on-site bronze foundry that is unique within CUNY.<\/p>\n

Entry into the Program<\/h2>\n

These requirements are in addition to the college\u2019s general requirements for admission to the Master of Arts program. Alternatively, the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from a recognized institution shall be considered as an acceptable equivalent for the general requirements of the BA, subject to the determination of the department\u2019s MFA Committee in concurrence with the Office of Graduate Studies.<\/p>\n

  1. In addition to three letters of reference, each candidate for admission shall upload\u00a0a portfolio of work as prescribed by the committee (you\u2019ll submit a URL to an online collection of images). This portfolio shall be examined by the committee, which shall have the authority to accept or reject the candidate.<\/li>\n
  2. Your application is enhanced by previous study of art and art history.<\/li>\n
  3. We highly recommend contacting the department to arrange a visit.<\/li>\n
  4. Applicants should demonstrate satisfactory standards of spoken and written English. For applicants whose first language is not English, evidence of proficiency in English should be determined either through an interview or by submitting a standard test. The required score may under certain circumstances be waived by the department with permission from the ºì¶¹ÊÓƵ graduate admissions office.     Graduate Studio Art Program Mission Statement<\/span><\/h1>\n

    The M.F.A. in Studio Art trains professional artists at an advanced level. The aim of this degree is to produce graduates who can contribute significantly to the contemporary world of the visual arts both creatively and structurally, but who are also qualified to teach Studio Art at the college level\u00a0in accordance with\u00a0the College Art Association\u2019s Standards and Guidelines (1977, 1991, 2008).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Graduates of the MFA in Studio Art program will develop into critically engaged and technically proficient artists capable of creating a cohesive and compelling visual statement. By integrating technical\u00a0expertise, critical inquiry, and contextual understanding, students refine their artistic voice and\u00a0prepare for\u00a0professional contributions to the global art community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
