HEALTH and CULTURE MINOR<\/strong><\/p>\n

Anthropology plays a crucial role in fostering a holistic understanding of the human condition that can <\/span>serve to enhance traditional medical training. The Anthropology Minor in Health & Culture<\/strong> includes <\/span>courses focusing on the human condition from both biological and cultural perspectives. These\u00a0 <\/span>courses will collectively facilitate an understanding of the<\/span> evolutionary and biological <\/span>underpinnings of health, cultural beliefs about disease and the body, and the social, <\/span>political, and economic roots of health disparities.<\/span> This Minor helps prepare students to pursue <\/span>careers related to human health, including social work, public health, nursing, medical insurance <\/span>consulting, dentistry, physiotherapy, orthopedics, and medical or veterinary schools.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>
The Minor in Health & Culture consists of <\/span>six courses<\/span> totaling <\/span>18 credits<\/span>. The three required <\/span>courses are designed to give students a solid background in both the biological and cultural factors <\/span>that together shape human health. In addition, students will be required to choose one elective from a <\/span>list of offerings focusing on cultural diversity and two electives from a list of offerings focusing on the <\/span>biology of human and nonhuman primates.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Minor in Health & Culture can be easily combined with Majors in other departments. If combined <\/span>with a Major in Anthropology, four of the six courses (12 of the 18 credits) can overlap between the <\/span>Major and the Minor and <\/span>only 2 extra courses (6 extra credits) are required.<\/span><\/p>\n
